This doesn't have anything to do with my creations, I'm just talking about NG here. I'll be talking about school shootings and other massacres here.

I first played Pico's School when FNF revived this place, I noticed some ppl on other socials said it felt offensive. When I played it, I felt mixed but mainly positive about it. So, I did research about games with the same prompt of a school shooting to see how they compared in terms of sensitivity to the topic. It's actually quite safe to say that Pico seems the most respectful. It was created as a response of frustration by Mr. Fulp after the Columbine incident, where media was being blamed instead of the behavior and lives of the people who carried it out, along with other points of satire like the US's poor education system.

What about the other games...? They were based on real events. (WTF)

I was surprised to come back to this site again- one man made two games about then-recent massacres: Virginia Tech and later Sandy Hook. They were uploaded onto NG and then deleted. They both had you play the role of the perpetrator killing the real victims. It seemed the author cared more about shocking people than having a legitimate message to share.

There's also Super Columbine RPG, which has you carry out Columbine through RPG Maker. I don't have much to say about it. The author said he created it as a form of commentary and art, and released a documentary about it a couple years later. Then he made a documentary about ducks.

I learned about all of this over year ago, but yesterday I decided I wanted to refresh my memory. Learning about and from history is one of my priorities in life. As an American teenager who loves games, I feel obligated to, regarding this topic. So my recent venture, steering away from the topic of games, was copycat crimes, and somehow that led me again to Newgrounds.

Well, I don't feel like it's right to provide a link to the profile, although it still is up. In 2005 the Red Lake shooting happened, where a teen killed his grandfather, his grandfather's girlfriend, then went to his old school and killed more people there, then shot himself. While I was reading the Wikipedia article, it caught my eye that he had a Newgrounds and published two flash animations while he was still alive, under the name "Regret". And that's where I am now, writing this ...piece...? immediately after discovering it. It's not like I'm the first one to know this. There are people in the reviews of his animations speaking about the incident. But it did shock me a bit.

In relation to me, 2005 was the year after I was born. I'm also Native American. I'm also a fan of the goth subculture. I started to properly use Newgrounds at the age of 16, where on his profile his age has been frozen there. This guy was really similar to me, aside from the fact I'm not a murderer. And it's strange- most shooters were said to be interested in these things, most shooters were white, but here's this guy and me. Remember, though, this isn't about me.

This guy chose to murder people out of frustration. At one point he chose art, but decided to take his feelings out on innocent people- kids, too.

There are a lot of traumatized and mentally ill people out there, including this guy, including me, including you, most likely. Maybe if things were better in this country, maybe he would be an active member of our community. Maybe if he was able to get proper treatment. Maybe if he didn't have easy access to guns. Maybe if Columbine wasn't so romanticized. Maybe if police really did protect people, instead of eating their lunch outside in a car, or deciding to run away from a kid with a gun.

I'm not too sure how to conclude this. There's a lot of things that can be taken from these events, and their impact on people. School shootings are even more common today, so common that media doesn't even bother to report on them now. I'm sure you know the answer isn't to ban GTA or Hot Topic or whatever, but that there are systemic issues in place that need to be addressed. When are they going to be addressed? I don't know. I'm an optimist, so I hope someday soon. I'm glad I have been able to survive all my years of schooling, and I'm glad to have met all of you. Please be kind to others for me. Thank you.
